Uta Note Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 9, 2026

Uta Note is a Japanese lyric-study app run by Juan Duran ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, who handles it for us, and how you can delete it. It is linked in the app (on the sign-in screen and in the Library) and published at https://utanoteapp.com/privacy. Questions: support@utanoteapp.com.

The short version

What we collect

DataWhy we need it
Your email address, and an account ID we assignTo send you a 6-digit sign-in code and keep your account. Everything below is stored under the account ID.
Song titles, artist names and the lyrics you pasteTo show and study your songs.
What the AI creates from your lyrics: readings, romaji, translations, word lists, notes and "Why?" explanationsSo you can read them again without waiting.
Study progress: lines you mark "I can say this", words you save as flashcards, and each flashcard's review schedule (times reviewed, times missed, next due date)To track and schedule your learning.
Usage records: for each AI request, the time, the AI model, the song, how many lines, and how much AI processing it used (token counts); how many songs you've analyzed; whether your account has ProTo apply the free 3-song limit and other limits, and to keep AI costs in check. These records contain no lyrics.
Sign-in records kept by our hosting provider, Supabase: when your account was created and when you signed in, plus the IP address and app/browser type of each sessionTo keep accounts secure and the service running.

Kept on your phone: your sign-in token and your display settings (which script to show, and whether romaji and translations are on). Deleting the app removes them.

What we don't collect: location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera access, advertising or other device identifiers, payment details (the alpha has no in-app purchases), or analytics data. The app's fonts are built in, so it doesn't contact font services.

Who handles your data for us

We use these providers only to run Uta Note:

We store your data in the United States. Our providers may also process it in other countries where they operate.

We don't share your data with anyone else, and we never use it for advertising.

Who can see your songs

Your songs are private to your account. The database only lets your signed-in account read or change them, and the app has no sharing features. All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). As the operator, we can access the database to run and fix the service; we look at your content only to fix a problem you report or when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Deleting your account

In the app, go to Library → Delete account. This immediately and permanently deletes your account and everything the app's database holds for it: songs, lyrics, analyses, explanations, progress, saved words and usage records. It also immediately deletes your account's entries in Supabase's sign-in security log, which record your email address with sign-in events. It can't be undone.

Some copies remain for a limited time after that: Supabase's platform logs and backups expire automatically on Supabase's schedule for our plan, and Anthropic normally keeps data up to 30 days; content flagged under Anthropic's usage policy can be kept longer (see above).

You can also email support@utanoteapp.com to ask us to delete your data.

Your rights

You can view your data in the app, delete any song, and delete your account. You can also email us to ask for a copy of your data or to correct or delete it, and we'll reply within 30 days. If you live in California, you have these rights under California law too, and we won't treat you differently for using them.

Children

Uta Note is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, email support@utanoteapp.com and we'll delete it.

Changes

Uta Note is in alpha and this policy may change. We'll update the date at the top, and we'll email testers about significant changes.
